Aw. I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

My guess is that you're trying to upload your Camtasia file directly without FIRST creating a movie out of it.

Tippi,
I didn't know you were on Facebook. I don't have many friends there and I did a friends search. If possible, I need to add you to my list :)

I heard about that too. It makes me wonder what would push this "gang" of girls to beat up this girl. Was it something petty or something major? Regardless of whatever reason it was, it does not excuse their violent actions by any means. I agree, what is this world coming to?

I enjoyed reading your blog. It reminded me of a family member that some of the family used to talk about when I was a little girl. She was a schoolteacher and something had happened to her husband so she was left to fend for a very young daughter and herself around the time period that your blog references. From what I understand, the school in which she taught was mostly a one-room building way out in the country - eastern Kentucky in early 20th century - where she lived in the back with her child and taught in the front by day. It was pretty primitive, but from what I understand she did a good job of educating the mountain youth who came to her school.

The biggest problem with the Silicon Ceiling is that it typifies the thinking that women should be getting the lower-status/lower-paid jobs -- like teaching and nursing -- while men should be able to operate unhindered in the higher-status/higher-paid jobs.

What it underscores is that the education system still treats boys and girls differently by continuing to shoe-horn them into gender-biased stereotypes.

Girls don't like math ... Boys are natural builders ... Girls are nurturers ... Boys are takers ...

Yea - it sure seems like it works like that if you look at what adults are doing in general, but IS it the reality that we can generalize this way?

Teaching students the act of learning. Could we do that by showing them how we would solve a problem? (Based on the age of students) For example first graders learning beginning addition, we could count students at different tables to see how many are in the class. Show different ways to solve the problem instead of one way.
